House Buying is a Pain!!

Our project this month is buying a house. We decided that since our lease is almost up, we know the general area that we want to live, and we obviously need more space since we are constantly bumping into each other and jumping over all our junk, it is time to upgrade. We could move to a bigger place, but an apartment or house for rent in a decent neighborhood (our current one is not) would rent for no less than $1000 in this area. For that we could have our own place that we actually get to KEEP instead of giving that money to a landlord!

We figured up a budget, and with our combined incomes, figured out ALL of the expenses down to the mortgage insurance (which is stupid), extra utilities, and repairs, and decided that we could afford it especially since we have reduced the wedding budget quite significantly thanks to wonderul parents!! We visited about a thousand houses, before finally deciding on the very first house we were interested in! It is an older house (which we like) in a beautiful, established neighborhood where everyone takes care of their yards (big selling point). It was recently renovated with new paint and crown molding, some safety-related updates, and a brand new roof!! The only thing that really needs some updating is parts of the electrical system... well isn't THAT convenient! (John's an electrician in case you didn't know)

We currently have a contract on our new home, but must go through the tedious act of closing which is more complicated than I ever imagined! Luckily, the seller agreed to our requests: paying FULL closing cost, downpayment assistance, and a year's worth of (renewable) insurance that will repair anything for a $53 deductible!! Whoo hoo!! It IS a buyer's market!! If everything goes as planned, we should close on or before August 26th. Only then will the 5 million phone calls, emails, appointments, 3-hour online "house-buying" class, paperwork gathering, more paperwork gathering, even MORE paperwork gathering be WORTH IT!! And we'll just have to live in this house until we die, because house-buying is no fun. :)

But anyway, check out our pretty house!!
